Here is the reason why.
Electric toothbrush cleans your teeth more effectively than a manual toothbrush. There's are two types of electric toothbrushes out there. One is the oscillating toothbrush that rotates back and forth, anywhere from 2,500-7,000 strokes per minute. The most common is the Oral-B. Another type is the Sonic toothbrushes. They use the sonic technology which makes the brush vibrate at 30,000-40,000 strokes per minute. Sonicare is the major manufacture with this technology. Research has shown that electric toothbrushes are more effective at removing plaque and preventing gingivitis than a traditional manual tooth brushing alone. When using a manual toothbrush alone we can't produce 2,000+ strokes a minute.
No matter which tooth brush... electric or manual, it is still recommended that patients brush twice a day for two minutes.
